NOTES: The White Lion is not a distinct subspecies, but a special morph of the Kruger subspecies, with genetic condition, leucism this causes paler colouration. They are not albino, having normal pigmentation in the eyes and skin. This condition is caused by a recessive gene distinct from the albinism gene. Their colour can vary between blond and near-to-white. Lions spent much of their time resting and are inactive for about 20 hours per day. Although lions can be active at any time their activity generally peaks after dusk, with intermittent bursts of activity through the night hours until dawn, when hunting most often takes place.
