DISTRIBUTION: India, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Bhutan and Pakistan.
DIET: Grass, leaves and Fruit.
NOTES: The axis deer are found in large numbers in dense deciduous or semi-evergreen forests and open grasslands in large mixed herds of ten to fifty individuals of both sexes. The highest numbers of Axis Deer also known as Chital are found in the forest of India where they feed upon tall grass and shrubs. They prefer to be near water and will drink mornings and evenings in hot weather. They weight between 30 and 75kg.
