DISTRIBUTION: North, Central and South America.
DIET: Fruit, roots, tubers. palm nuts, grasses, invertebrates & small vertebrates.
NOTES: Although related to the pigs, this species and the other peccaries are no longer classified in the big family. They are diurnal creatures that live in groups of 1 – 20 individuals. they defent themselves with their long tusks and can also release a strong musk if alarmed.
