DISTRIBUTION: Northeastern coast of Brazil.
DIET: Insects, spiders, small vertebrates, bird eggs, fruits, and tree sap.
NOTES: The life expectancy in the wild is about 10 years, although some living in captivity have lived to 16 years. They can run swiftly along the branches of trees and are also excellent jumpers. Marmosets live in pairs or family groups in which only the dominant pair breed. Common marmosets have well developed epidermal scent glands and scent-marking behaviours which they use to communicate within their group.
